Samsung sales fall 8.4% in Q2
Samsung Electronics said it expects to report second-quarter revenues down 8.4 percent from a year earlier to KRW 48 trillion, while operating profit will fall 4 percent to KRW 6.9 trillion. Its final quarterly results will be reported later this month. 

The lower results are thought to be the result of weaker smartphone sales, with the recent launch of the flagship Galaxy S6 by Samsung unable to return the company to growth. This should be offset somewhat by stronger results at the company's semiconductor activities.

Samsung applies for S6 Edge+ trademark

Samsung has applied to register the trademark S6 EDGE+ for a new smartphone. The US Patent and Trademark Office writes the new application will be assigned to an examining attorney approximately three months after the filing date of 26 June. Samsung issues patch for SwiftKey security problem

Samsung is releasing a software patch to fix a security problem with the keyboard on some of its smartphones. Samsung delays launch of new payments service to Sept

Samsung has delayed the launch of its new payments service to September from July, Bloomberg reported, citing executive VP Rhee In Jong, who made the statement during an investor call. Services will start in the US and and South Korea from September when the company unveils its next high-end device. Galaxy S6 Edge costs USD 290 to make, more than iPhone 6

Samsung is spending around USD 290 to build and assemble each Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone, according to a teardown assessment from IHS Technology. Galaxy S6 Edge faces supply issues due to curved screens

Samsung said there may be limited supplies of its new curved-screen Galaxy S6 Edge smartphone because the screens are difficult to make, the Wall Street Journal reported. Mobile chief Jong-Kyun Shin said during a media event that the company was working hard to resolve the difficulty in supply. He added that the supply issue could persist "for a while." Samsung Q1 profit falls less than expected

Samsung Electronics reported preliminary revenues of KRW 47 trillion for the first quarter, down from KRW 54 trillion a year earlier. Operating profit fell to KRW 5.9 trillion from KRW 8.5 trillion a year ago. While the company continued to post lower results, the drop in profit was less than expected by analysts polled by Bloomberg.
