Samsung to integrate smart home platform in new TVs
Samsung Electronics plans to showcase smart TVs connected to its SmartThings platform at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2016 in Las Vegas 6-9 January 2016. All 2016 Samsung smart TV models will be compatible with SmartThings, and all SUHD TVs will have IoT Hub technology so the TV can work as the control centre for the smart home. 

With the 2016 SUHD TVs, users will be able to connect with, control, and monitor more than 200 other compatible devices including lights, locks, thermostats, cameras, speakers, appliances and SmartThings. Control of the system works over the SmartThings app within the SUHD TV or on a mobile app. A free USB adapter called the 'SmartThings Extend' will be provided to connect the TV to the home network and enable ZigBee and Z-Wave devices.

Samsung opens up TV checkout system to all developers

Samsung has announced the launch of an expanded native billing system for its range of internet-connected smart TVs at its annual developer conference. The Samsung Checkout on TV payment system has been opened up to all developers and will work on all of the company's smart TVs from 2014 to 2016, with support for 2013 models to be added by the end of this year. The company said all developers can now offer paid features, allowing consumers to quickly purchase goods, apps and services directly from their TVs

Comcast launches programme for TV access on new devices

Comcast announced the launch of the Xfinity TV Partner Program to expand the range of retail devices its customers can use to access their Xfinity TV service. The programme provides a common framework to which smart TV, TV-connected and IP-enabled retail device manufacturers can build to make the Xfinity TV Partner app available to eligible customers in Comcast markets without the need to lease a set-top box from Comcast. Samsung and Roku are the first companies to sign up for the programme.

Samsung Electronics has unveiled its latest smart TVs and the first Samsung Ultra HD Blu-ray player, all set for release in March and April. The Korean giant said its new range of SUHD TVs running Tizen OS deliver unprecedented picture quality thanks to their 'Quantum Dot' (QD) screen. Samsung claims that its new UBD-K8500 Ultra HD Blu-ray player delivers 64 times better colour quality than standard Blu-ray players. Samsung Q4 profit falls short of expectations

Samsung Electronics said its fourth-quarter operating profit rose by 15 percent year-on-year, less than market estimates. In a preliminary report, the company said operating profit rose to KRW 6.1 trillion from KRW 5.29 trillion a year earlier, and quarterly revenues were up 0.5 percent year-on-year to KRW 53 trillion. Full results for the quarter will be released at the end of January.
