Samsung unveils Galaxy J2 Core, its first Android Go phone

Samsung has announced the launch of the budget Galaxy J2 Core, its first smartphone to run Android Go, Google’s stripped-down version of Android optimised for low-cost devices. The handset comes with a 5-inch 540 x 960 quadHD display, an Exynos 7570 processor, 2,600mAh battery, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. It features two cameras: an 8MP camera with flash in the rear and a 5MP selfie camera. Both cameras have an f2.2 aperture for improved wide-angle photography plus features such as Beauty Mode.

The Galaxy J2 Core will initially be available in Malaysia and India from 24 August and expand to additional markets in the near future, although Samsung has yet to reveal pricing details. The company added that the J2 Core will be based on Android 8.1 Oreo, not the Android 9 Pie version of Go recently announced by Google.
