Samsung updates Galaxy A9 smartphone with 4th back camera

Samsung has unveiled in New York a new version of its Galaxy A9 smartphone, a premium mid-range phone with five cameras. It will launch in November around the world for a recommended price of EUR 599.

Adding to the Galaxy A7 presented in September with three rear cameras, the new A9 gets a fourth camera with telephoto lens. The back camera offers a 24-megapixel sensor for standard photos and videos, a 5-megapixel depth lens for creating bokeh effects, an 8-megapixel 120-degree wide-angle lens, and the 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. A 24-megapixel lens on the front gives the device a total of five cameras. It also comes with AI Scene Recognition to optimise photos based on their subject.

The device otherwise includes some of the features on Samsung's top Galaxy S series, such as an edge-less Super Amoled display. The 6.3-inch screen offers a Full HD+ resolution and 18.5:9 screen aspect. The Galaxy A9 (2018) runs Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 2.2 GHz octa-core processor and comes with up to 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage, as well as a microSD card slot. It comes with Android 8.1, which will be updated later to 9.0, and a 3,800 mAh battery and will be available in the colours Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue and Bubblegum Pink.
