
Samsung said the company will pre-install software of Russian origin onto its smartphones to be sold on the Russian market, reports Comnews.ru. The company earlier installed the local email service Mail.ru and the search engine Yandex onto smartphones to be sold in Russia.
Russian president Vladimir Putin signed the law on mandatory pre-installation of local software onto devices to be sold in Russia in December 2019. The law will apply to smartphones from 01 June, to tablets from 2021, to PCs from 2022 and to set-top boxes from 2023
Xiaomi also also announced it is ready to comply with the Russian law, while Apple earlier declined to perform such pre-installations.
Samsung holds a 28.5 percent share of the smartphone market in units. Huawei, including the Honor brand, leads with 37.5 percent.
