SANReN says vessel departs to repair WACS cable

Tuesday 31 March 2020 | 10:08 CET | News
A cable vessel is on its way to repair the West Africa Cable System (WACS) submarine cable as a break is causing slow internet speeds in South Africa, reports ITWeb citing the RENAlerts service by SANReN and TENET (Tertiary Education and Research Network). It is estimated that the repair will be completed by 04 April. The fault was revealed on 28 March by the South African National Research & Education Network (SANReN), a major user of the cable, which detected the break just before midnight.
