Schleswig-Holstein launches broadband alliance with 60 partners

Sixty companies and institutions in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein have formed an alliance to provide statewide fibre-optic coverage by 2025. Providers have voluntarily committed themselves to increasing residential access to fibre internet and eliminate so-called "white spots" in coverage in the cities and rural areas across the state. Even so, "two large telecommunications companies" have declined to join the initiative, said Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of Economics, Bernd Buchholz, adding that five other firms are considering joining.
