Second Netherlands Digital conference to take place in Groningen

Thursday 12 September 2019 | 09:48 CET | News

The Dutch government has started organising the second edition of the annual Nederland Digitaal (Netherlands Digital) conference, set to take place on 16-19 March 2020, in Groningen. The aim of the event is for the cabinet, entrepreneurs, researchers, civil society organisations and other governments to work together on making the Netherlands into the European digital leader. The government believes this must be done by responding more quickly to how society and the economy are digitising. As part of the conference, there will be a two-day scientific meeting: ICT.OPEN.

The government adopted the Nederland Digitaal strategy in 2018. It wanted to harness the social and economic opportunities of digitisation in a responsible manner, together with other stakeholders. The government believes the technology could help solve global challenges such as giving better and affordable care, reducing CO2, providing a sustainable food supply and high-quality logistics, but also bringing automation to business processes, developing big data and better accessibility.

AI strategic action plan

During the first conference in Hilversum last March, State Secretary Mona Keijzer (EZK) announced her strategic action plan for AI (artificial intelligence) and a national AI coalition was launched. More details about this initiative will be presented at the upcoming meeting.

The annual conference is an initiative of the cabinet led by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate (EZK) in collaboration with the Ministries of the Interior and Kingdom Relations (BZK) and Justice and Security (JenV). It is a public-private partnership in which the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO), business associations VNO-NCW, MKB Nederland and NLdigital will also cooperate with the support of ECP foundation.
