SES announces office closures amid internal reorganisation

Satellite operator SES said that it plans to restructure its operations worldwide under the Simplify & Amplify transformation programme unveiled in March. The company has decided to consolidate business functions, closing its offices in Brussels, central London, the Isle of Man, Warsaw and Zurich. Activities from these locations will be redistributed across other offices in Kiev, London (Stockley Park), Stockholm, The Hague, and SES' headquarters in Luxembourg.

As part of the Simplify & Amplify programme, the operator has already launched a voluntary, phased retirement scheme and has removed many open positions. Overall, the reorganisation will impact between 10 and 15 percent of SES' global workforce.

The company has teamed up with the European Space Agency (ESA) and the Luxembourg Department of Defence, with the support of partners including the Belgian Civil Protection and GovSat, to deploy the satellite-enabled mobile Biological Light Fieldable Laboratory for Emergencies, known as B-LiFE.

SES Networks provides SD-WAN service to RCS Communication in South Sudan

RCS Communication has adopted a Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) based on SES Networks' SD-WAN to improve customer service, resilience and bandwidth usage in South Sudan, SES announced. The SES Networks SD-WAN service enables customers to use make optimal use of their available WAN access connections, ranging from Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) satellites and Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) constellations, to fibre and other terrestrial links.

SES orders new satellites to comply with C-band clearance plan

Satellite operator SES announced contracts for four new satellites that will launch in Q3 2022. SES starts clearing C-band spectrum ahead of US auction

Satellite operator SES said it plans to meet the FCC's accelerated timeline of 23 April to clear part of the C-band spectrum in the US. The FCC wants to clear the band so that it can hold an auction for the spectrum, which will then be used for 5G. The move means SES will be entitled to receive up to USD 3.97 billion in accelerated relocation payments.

SES posts 2% fall in underlying revenues, 3% EBITDA drop in Q1

Satellite operator SES has reported underlying revenues of EUR 470.8 million in the first quarter, down 2.2 percent year-on-year at constant currency (-3.1% in Q4). The contraction was due to the ongoing negative performance of the Video Distribution and Video Services business lines (-8.2% and -6.7% respectively), which generated EUR 281.9 million in the quarter. SES appoints Frank Esser as new chairman, names new board members

At the AGM, shareholders elected Beatrice de Clermont-Tonnerre and Peter van Bommel as new board members for an initial two-year mandate, while approving a reduction in the size of the board from fourteen to twelve directors. In addition to Esser, Bausch, and the two new members, SES will continue to count within its board Tsega Gebreyes, Ramu Potarazu, Kaj-Erik Relander, Katrin Wehr-Seiter, Serge Allegrezza, Paul Konsbruck, Anne-Catherine Ries, and Françoise Thoma.
