Satellite operator SES announced contracts for four new satellites that will launch in Q3 2022. They will enable SES to migrate existing customers from the portion of C-band spectrum in the process of being cleared by the US for 5G services, as part of the accelerated transition plan agreed with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The contracts have been awarded to US satellite manufacturers Boeing and Northrop Grumman, and the procurement costs will be met with the USD 1.6 billion investment envelope approved by the company in May.
