SFR to launch satellite TV service
French operator SFR will launch a satellite TV service in the coming days, to serve its customers in areas without LLU access, CEO Frank Esser said in an interview with Le Figaro. French news portal Ariase said it's learned the service will be delivered over a Sagem HD box, which offers access to all the DTT channels as well as the free TV and radio on the Astra 19.2 degrees east satellite. Time-shifting and VoD will be added in the first half of 2011. Customers will also be able to add the Canalsat service. The TV service will cost an extra EUR 5 per month, in line with SFR's new Evolution triple-play offering. Esser said the company targets half of its estimated 1 million new customers in 2011 taking up the evolution offer.
