Shetland residents' broadband slows due to high take-up

Residents of the Shetland Islands, UK, have seen a dramatic drop in internet speeds due to their high uptake of superfast (up to 80 Mbps) broadband, rolled out to about 4,000 homes in Lerwick, Quarff and Sumburgh in October 2014, reports the Shetland News. Since then most customers' download speeds have fallen significantly and services to other BT customers have been intermittent. The operator said it was aware of broadband speed issues affecting some users in the Shetland area and apologised for any impact on local people.
