T-Mobile Netherlands announced it's received clearance from the regulator ACM to acquire MVNO Simpel. As a result, Simpel will become part of the company from 01 December. It will continue to operate as an independent brand, with no change for customers or staff.
Started in 2007, Simpel already uses the T-Mobile network for its around 1 million customers. T-Mobile first announced the takeover in mid-October, and the acquisition of the country's largest MVNO will take its total customer base to around 6.6 million.
The ACM said it did not find any major impact on competition from the takeover, as T-Mobile will continue to face significant competition from KPN and Vodafone as well as the many other MVNOs on the market. It also looked at the MVNO market and found there should still be enough incentive for network operators to provide wholesale access.
