SK Hynix buys Link_A_Media Devices
SK Hynix announced an agreement to acquire California-based storage device company Link_A_Media Devices for USD 248 million. Founded in 2004, LAMD develops SoCs for the data storage market. Its controllers interface with processors to significantly increase the speed and reliability of Flash memory. Upon completion of the acquisition, LAMD will join SK Hynix as a business unit focused on customized NAND products. The acquisition will support Hynix in the growing market for smartphones and tablets, as well as build its position in premium products such as e-MMC (embedded Multi Media Card) and SSDs (Solid State Drives).

Toshiba outperforms NAND market in Q1

Toshiba bucked the market trend to show double-digit growth in NAND revenues in the first quarter, according to a report from IHS iSuppli. The company's revenues rose 19.2 percent sequentially to USD 1.71 billion, good for a 34.2 percent share of the market. SK Hynix withdraws Elpida Memory bid

Chipmaker SK Hynix has pulled is bid for Japanese company Elpida Memory, the AFP reports. "We decided not to participate . . . it doesn't seem very advantageous strategically," board Chairman Choi Tae Won said. In March, SK Hynix revealed it had expressed interest in bidding for the troubled firm.

SK Hynix losses widen as memory prices fall

SK Hynix reported first-quarter revenues of KRW 2.388 trillion, down 6 percent from the previous quarter and 14 percent lower year-on-year.
