SK Telecom introduces LTE-Advanced network
South Korean operator SK Telecom has introduced LTE-Advanced on its mobile network, offering speeds twice as fast as LTE. The operator plans to launch a commercial service in September. LTE-A is based on carrier aggregation technology, which bundles two frequency bands to increase the bandwidth. The network automatically chooses one of several frequency bands available based on data traffic at the user's location.

SK Telecom's LTE-A base hits 1 mln

South Korean telecommunications provider SK Telecom has over 1 million LTE-Advanced subscribers, Mobile World Live reports citing a company representative. SK Telecom has a total of 12.4 million LTE subscribers, or 46 percent of its mobile base. SK Telecom introduced the LTE-Advanced mobile network on 26 June. The LTE-Advanced service is currently available in Seoul, 65 other cities and 103 universities across the country.

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has assisted three South Korean mobile operators to roll out LTE-Advanced carrier aggregation services. South Korean mobile operator SK Telecom plans to expand its LTE- Advanced mobile network service to 84 cities in the country, reports Yonhap News Agency. For the first time, SK Telecom introduced the LTE-Advanced mobile network in the country on 26 June. SK Telecom, Apple in talks on LTE-A iPhone - report

South Korean communications provider SK Telecom is in talks with Apple on launching an LTE-Advanced iPhone. "SK Telecom is approaching Apple to put our LTE-A technology on the upcoming iPhone 5S. We are in the middle of negotiations," the Korea Times quotes an unnamed SK Telecom executive as saying. SK Telecom launched the LTE-A upgrade at the end of June. Samsung to launch LTE Advanced version of Galaxy S4

Samsung plans to sell a version of its Galaxy S4 smartphone running the faster LTE Advanced technology as early as this month, co-CEO JK Shin told Reuters in an interview. Korean communications provider SK Telecom posted a net income of KRW 1.12 trillion for FY 2012, down 29.5 percent from KRW 1.58 trillion in 2011. SK Telecom targets doubling LTE subscribers in 2013

Korean communications provider SK Telecom has seen its LTE subscriber base exceed 7 million on 12 December, achieving its 2012 target for LTE subscribers.
