SK Telecom to roll out Uplink CoMP across LTE network

South Korean communications carrier SK Telecom and Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) have successfully trialled Uplink CoMP in SK Telecom's commercial LTE network. The operator said it plans to apply the technology to all LTE base stations this year. In an area covered by multiple base stations, Uplink CoMP (Uplink Cooperative Multi-Point) directs that signals from mobile devices are received by not one but multiple base stations, and combines these signals to increase signal strength. SK Telecom claims that the technology will boost data upload speeds by an average of 20 percent.
