Sky, BT, Virgin to offer network-level filtering in 2013

UK ISPs Virgin Media, BT and Sky all plan to launch network-level filters later in 2013, reports PC Pro magazine. Following a government-led consultation in 2012, the ISPs agreed to a code of conduct to offer free adult-content filters on an opt-in basis. Sky's head of policy, Adam Kinsley, said he was hopeful the industry could avoid regulatory intervention by doing a little bit more. He said that Sky would launch an opt-in, network-level filter 'in the next few months', adding that it would use DNS look-up to determine unsafe sites.
