Sky Deutschland starts streaming TV offer
Sky Deutschland is offering a new way to experience its content, with the standalone online TV service Sky Online. Anyone without a traditional Sky subscription can register at www.skyonline.de to watch a selection of the latest series, films and exclusive live sports on the internet, iPad and iPhone. 

The service runs on a monthly contract. It will be expanded in the next months to include the Sky Online TV Box, Xbox One, LG and Samsung Smart TVs as delivery platforms, well as select Android tablets and smartphones.

Two different programming packages including both linear channels and a variety of on-demand highlights (more than 10,000 titles per year) can be booked for Sky Online: The Sky Starter package and the Sky Film package. In addition, customers with either of these packages can add a Sky Supersport Tagesticket for a daily pass to Sky Bundesliga and Sky Sport channels. This makes it possible to enjoy the games of the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League, Formula One, Formula E, golf and more live sport for EUR 19.99 per day.

As part of a strategic partnership with the American streaming provider Roku, Sky has also developed its own streaming box, which upgrades a TV set into a smart TV. Customers will be able to instantly stream the complete Sky Online and Snap programming catalogue to the television. In addition to both Sky Online services, customers will also have access to more apps through the Roku streaming platform. The Sky Online TV Box will be available in the next months and is based on Roku’s streaming players.

Sky reports rating records for start of Bundesliga season

Sky Germany said it reached new rating records for the Bundesliga kick-off. On the first match day, 2.11 million viewers (season 2014/2015: 1.94 mln) were recorded in the advertising-relevant target group of 14 to 59 year-old men for the live broadcast on linear TV. The opening fixtures at the weekend generated 4.68 million viewers in total, of which 4.01 million were linear and 0.67 million via Sky Go.

Sky send sports news to smartphones via WhatsApp

Sky Deutschland announced that Sky Sport News HD now sends sports news via the messenger service WhatsApp. The service is available free to Sky customers as well as non-customers; to receive the news on the smartphone, a registration with a mobile number on sky.de/whatsapp is required. Since the launch of the new service, about 20,000 users have registered during the first week.

The German Football League (DFL) has announced the launch of a VoD service at the start of the next Bundesliga season, offering background and historical features looking back at 50 years of the German men's football league. The content is due to be available individually on various platforms in Germany or in combination with a subscription. DFL's first partner is Sky Germany.

Google's streaming box Nexus Player is now available on the German market for EUR 99. The device runs on a 1.8 GHz Intel Atom quad-core processor and features 1 GB of RAM as well as 8 GB of internal memory. Video streaming taking over from linear TV in Germany

German IT association Bitkom said 33 percent of people aged 14 or over in Germany uses video streaming in place of traditional TV for at least some of their viewing. This corresponds to a good 13 million people, it said, citing a survey. It found 44 percent of streaming users watch less cable or satellite TV now that they watch continent on line. It said 18 percent of respondents could see themselves ditching linear TV completely.

Sky Deutschland moves to net profit as Q1 sales up 10%

Sky Deutschland reported revenues for its fiscal first quarter up 10 percent year-on-year to EUR 431 million. Growth was led by an increase in the customer base, while ARPU was stable at around EUR 34 per month.
