Sky Italia denies reports of free-to-air plans

Pay-TV operator Sky Italia has issued a statement denying reports that it will shortly begin to broadcast a number of free-to-air channels. Italian daily La Repubblica reported that the pay-TV operator was planning to challenge Italian DTT broadcasters Mediaset and Rai by entering the free-to-air market. However, Sky said the rumours were "unfounded" and that it was "fully focused on its core pay-TV business". The operator added that its DTT presence would be limited to the channel Cielo, which had a 1.35 percent audience share in September. Back in June, two unnamed sources told Bloomberg
