Sky Italia finalising plans to launch telephony service, headhunting CEO - report

Pay-TV provider Sky Italia is preparing to launch a telecommunications service with convergent mobile and fixed line plans and is headhunting an experienced CEO for the venture, reports local daily La Repubblica. Last year the company confirmed that it was planning to enter Italy's fixed broadband market in summer 2019 after signing a long-term agreement with Open Fiber. The pay-TV giant was then added to regulator Agcom's public register of communications operators (Registro pubblico Operatori di Comunicazione) at the end of 2018 and was reportedly in talks with Vodafone Italia and Telecom Italia about using their frequencies for a Sky-branded mobile service.

Candidates for the position of chief executive include favourite Maximo Ibarra, current CEO of Dutch operator KPN and former head of Wind Tre, current Fastweb CEO Alberto Calcagno and Pietro Scott Jovane, TIM’s former chief commercial officer. The company has entrusted the search to international headhunting firm Heidrick & Struggles, said the report.
