Facebook is launching a new video calls service, based on the Skype platform. The new service is part of a bigger upgrade of the chat service on Facebook, which also includes the addition of group chat functionality and a new messaging bar with the most common contacts. Video calls is embedded in the same instant messaging service on Facebook. After a brief set-up on first use, users can click the video call button to launch a call. Facebook will be gradually rolling out the service to all users in the coming weeks. While the video calls are free among the some 750 million Facebook users, Skype may later launch its paid products on the social network.
