Slim needs more competition – Televisa chairman

Monday 26 March 2012 | 07:08 CET | News
Mexican broadcaster Televisa's chairman Emilio Azcarraga has urged billionaire Carlos Slim to stop what he said were actions to block competition in the country's telecommunications market. The statement was made in an opinion column published on the WSJ. Azcarraga says Televisa does not oppose the Mexican government's plans to create a new nationwide broadcast TV network "as long as the rules create a level playing field for competition". Televisa would also not challenge an attempt for a new television network backed by a US partner, as long as it receives reciprocal treatment in the US.
