Smart tests TDD-LTE technology with Huawei
Philippine mobile operator Smart Communications has begun testing TDD-LTE technology. Smart's LTE network currently uses Frequency-Division Duplexing (FDD) but has recently tested Time-Division Duplexing (TDD) in cooperation with Chinese equipment vendor Huawei. The test facilities were able to achieve speeds of 40 to 60 Mbps via an LTE Sim-equipped router.

Ericsson completes 250 LTE sites for Smart

Ericsson has completed the installation of 250 LTE sites for Philippine mobile operator Smart Communications. Smart's LTE network now spans 46 cities and 69 municipalities across the Philippines. Philippine mobile operator Smart Communications has launched the "payITfwd" initiative to reward social efforts. The company invites groups or individuals to submit a video to show their project and its impact and how technology can help spread the benefits. Smart will select twenty finalists who will receive a technology package of five tablets, a Smart Bro Pocket Wi-Fi, Smart Bro load worth PHP 3,000, and a cash prize of PHP 50,000.

Philippine mobile operator Smart Communications has introduced the fourth generation iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular and the iPad mini with Wi-Fi + Cellular. The devices are offered with data plans for Smart's LTE network. On Plan 999, the iPad mini starts at PHP 13,990 for the 16 GB version and the iPad starts at PHP 21,990 for the 16 GB model.

Cagayan de Oro picks Smart's Infoboard for warnings

Cagayan de Oro City, a Philippine city that was hit hard by typhoon Sendong in 2011, has selected Smart Communications' Infoboard service for its flood warnings. The Infoboard Service, a web-based SMS platform, allows registered subscribers to connect with other Infoboard members through text broadcasts. Huawei has launched its 240G BNG board for commercial use at the MPLS Ethernet World Congress. The Huawei 240G BNG board has multiple interfaces for various sub-boards, such as 10G, 40G, and 100G.
