Smartphone connections to triple to 6 bln by 2020 - GSMA

The number of global smartphone connections will grow threefold to 6 billion by 2020, according to a wide-ranging study from GSMA Intelligence. In fact, the "Smartphone forecasts and assumptions, 2007-2020" study predicts that smartphones will account for two out of every three mobile connections globally by 2020, excluding machine-to-machine (M2M) connections. Basic phones, feature phones and data terminals such as tablets, dongles and routers will account for 3 billion of the 9 billion mobile connections total. The report also forecasts that developing markets will account for 80 percent of
