Smartphone payments come to more Belgian shops this summer

Smartphone payments will become possible at most Belgian merchants this summer, via Worldline's SmartPay payment system, La Libre reported. The system is already available at 130 major stores and works using the Bancontact application. It will soon be available at many major retailers and other businesses across the country. Small traders will be able to activate SmartPay for free on their payment terminal. Transaction costs will be the same as for card payments, Worldline said. For four months, transactions for amounts less than EUR 5 will be free.
