Smartphone sales lift 26% in Q1, led by Samsung - study

Smartphone sales grew 26 percent worldwide in the first quarter to 3780 million, as compared to the year before, according to the latest study from Gartner. The rise follows steep declines in 2020, and comes amid an improvement in consumer outlook following the global pandemic, plus sustained learning and working from home and pent-up demand from the year before. "However, one cannot ignore that the base for comparison is also lower in 2020, than it was in 2019. This explains the double-digit growth," the research noted. Gartner also noted that the global chip shortage, which had not yet hit
