Smartphone shipments dip 2% in Q1, Samsung takes back 1st place

Wednesday 2 May 2018 | 10:49 CET | News
Global smartphone shipments fell again in the first quarter but their decline at 2 percent was slower than the 9 percent fall recorded in the previous quarter, according to the latest study from Strategy Analytics. Shipments went to 345.4 million in Q1 from 353.8 million the year before, with the decrease attributed to longer replacement rates, diminishing carrier subsidies and a lack of new hardware design innovation. Samsung took back its first place but Huawei and Xiaomi performed the best among the major players, both hitting record market share levels.
