Smartphone shipments hit 363 mln in Q3, still led by Samsung

Vendors shipped a total of 362.9 million smartphones worldwide in a third quarter still dominated by Samsung, despite the recall of its Galaxy Note 7, according to data from IDC. Compared to the previous quarter, shipments grew 5.3 percent from 344.7 million, with Samsung shipping 359.3 million units. IDC noted that the effect of the recall on Samsung's long term prospects was still unknown but that that the absence of the Note 7 saw vendors looking to sell large-screened flagship alternatives like the Apple iPhone 7 Plus and Google Pixel.
