Smartphone shipments rise in Q3, spurred by growth in India and from Chinese brands - study

Smartphone shipments improved in the third quarter, reversing seven quarters of decline, according to the latest study from IDC. Shipments reached 358.3 million, up 0.8 percent year-on-year but over 8 percent sequentially. Growth was driven by emerging markets, and especially India, and marked by the rise of Chinese brands. In China, the top five brands consolidated their presence. Meanwhile, all top Chinese brands increased local shipments in preparation for 11.11, or "Singles Day'," the Chinese equivalent of Black Friday in the US.
