Social networks face new rules in France after adoption of hate-speech law

Social networks and online content providers will soon need to conform to new French legislation against hate speech. This requires them to take down clearly offensive posts from their sites within 24 hours of notification. After a year of debate, France's parliament approved the final version of the text on 13 May, despite widespread opposition from several political parties and NGOs. Its main measures are expected to take effect from 01 July.
