Socialist Party seeks monitoring of football TV contracts

Tuesday 5 January 2016 | 17:27 CET | News
Portugal's Socialist Party (PS) has requested the intervention of the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport to monitor the TV rights contracts recently signed with the top 3 football clubs in Portugal by telecom operators Meo and NOS, reports Diario Economico. At issue, according to the PS, are the principles of transparency that football clubs as public interest entities must observe and market rules that they "eclipsed during these negotiations". The political party has also requested the involvement of media regulator ERC, telecom regulator Anacom and the antitrust authority (AdC).
