SoftBank to eliminate 2-year mobile service contracts in Japan

Wednesday 11 September 2019 | 09:51 CET | News
SoftBank has announced that it will stop giving its mobile phone users 2-year contracts that offer discounts on monthly fees. Starting 13 September, SoftBank will begin offering rate plans that do not include cancellation charges or contract terms. Two-year contracts currently offered by SoftBank impose an early cancellation fee of JPY 9,500. Softbank's decision follows a new government regulation coming into force in October that requires mobile operators to cut cancellation fees on 2-year contracts to JPY 1,000 or less.
