Somnet launches 4G services in Mogadishu
Somnet has launched the first 4G services in Somalia, in the capital Mogadishu. Dalsan Radio reported that customers were seen queuing at the Somnet headquarters in order to purchase 4G Sim cards. Somnet offers a 4G modem or router for customers to connect the internet, as well as a range of prepaid bundles, including data and/or voice. Prices start at USD 1 for 500 MB valid 30 days.

This happened after terror group Al-Shabaab reportedly asked Hormuud to have its affiliate radio station Andulus included in the radio news alerts. Hormuud reportedly declined Al-Shabaab's request and then a few days later, Hormuud decided to halt its SMS alerts. There are seven radio stations currently under the Hormuud SMS alert, including Radio Dalsan.

Somalia starts offering dotSO domain services to ministries

Somalia's ICT ministry has officially started offering domain and email services based on Somalia's country code top-level domain (dotSO). This is part of ministry's 90-day plan to repatriate the country registry, which was unanimously endorsed by the Council Ministers in April.
