Sonatel and Envol secure deal to resell excess capacity of SOGEM fibre network

A consortium created by African groups Sonatel and Envol has been selected for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project that aims to exploit the excess capacity of a 1,728 km fibre network owned by energy company SOGEM (Societe de Gestion de l'Energie de Manantali). The two partners have created Ikasira, a private wholesale operator that will resell the excess capacity to internet service providers (ISPs) under a concession contract. They were chosen following an international tender process that was completed at the end of last year.
