Sony, Microsoft start partnership on cloud gaming, semiconductors, AI

Sony and Microsoft have announced they will be working together on cloud gaming, semiconductors and artificial intelligence. With the new partnership, the two companies will together develop future cloud systems for game and content streaming services on Microsoft Azure and Sony will use Microsoft Azure’s data centre systems for its own game and content streaming offerings. The two will also look to build better development platforms for the content creator community.

The cooperation around semiconductors will see both parties jointly developing new intelligent image sensor systems, integrating Sony’s image sensors with Microsoft’s Azure AI in a hybrid manner across cloud and edge. Regarding AI, the parties will see if they can bring Microsoft’s AI platform and tools into Sony's consumer products.

No financial or other details were provided but the companies said more information will be forthcoming in the future.
