Sony to cut south Swedish workforce by almost half

Sony is making nearly half of the staff at its Swedish facility redundant, online news portal The Local reported. The cutbacks were announced to the workforce at a meeting on 09 March. Sony's future is at stake and it needs to be profitable over the longer term, said CEO Kazuo Hirai. The changes are effective from 01 April. The 2,200 people working at the facility in Lund, including 400 consultants, will now be cut to 1,200, it said. Sony Mobile and the unions are now set to initiate negotiations, a process that is expected to take months, said The Local,
