Sony to drop 'premium standard' smartphones

Friday 26 May 2017 | 10:10 CET | News
Sony is dropping the 'premium standard' category of smartphones from its range, the company announced at its annual investors day. While the models such as the Xperia X and Xperia X Compact sold well in Japan, sales have been disappointing in other markets. As a result the company is abandoning the category of phones offering near-top specifications. Instead it will have a more clear focus on mid-range models, such as the XA1 and L1, and high-end phones, like the XZ Premium.
