Sony to shut down Crackle LatAm service in April - report

Monday 21 January 2019 | 11:59 CET | News
Sony Pictures Television has decided to discontinue its Crackle Latin America subscription VOD service by April, according to internal company documents obtained by Variety. First launched back in April 2012 as an ad-supported streaming service, Crackle LatAm switched to subscription video-on-demand model in 2016, with Sony reaching numerous distribution deals with local pay-TV partners and securing some 400,000 subscribers across 17 countries. However, the company has taken the decision to fold the service after concluding the business isn't economically viable, said the report.
