Sony, Toshiba, Hitachi agree on small displays merger

Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi have signed a definitive agreement to combine thier small and medium display businesses in the new company Japan Display, run by Innovation Network Corp of Japan (INCJ). INCJ is a public-private partnership that provides financial, technological and management support for next-generation businesses, and it will invest a total JPY 200 billion in Japan Display in exchange for shares. INCJ will hold 70 percent of the shares, while Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi will have 10 percent each. The business is scheduled to begin operations in spring 2012, subject to government
