Sony unveils premium Xperia XZ1 smartphone, mid-range XA1 Plus at Ifa

Sony has announced three new smartphones at the Ifa show in Berlin. The Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact will launch worldwide at the end of September with Android 8 Oreo, for respectively EUR 699 and EUR 599, while the Xperia XA1 Plus will launch later this autumn for EUR 349. 

The XZ1 is Sony's latest premium device, running the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor with gigabit LTE and featuring advanced camera functions. The device comes with a 5.2-inch Full HD HDR display, while the Compact version has a smaller 4.6-inch screen. 

The 19-megapixel Motion-Eye back camera comes with 960 fps video recording with slow-motion playback and the Autofocus burst and Predictive Capture function to take four shots in quick succession to catch changes in expression and the 3D Creator to turn images into 3D animations. On the front, the Xperia XZ1 has a 13-megapixel camera with wide-angle lens. The smartphone also offers high-resolution audio with upscaling and noise cancellation as well as the new S-Force Front Surround to enhance sound from the stereo speakers. 

The Xperia XA1 Plus offers a 5.5-inch Full HD display, 23-megapixel camera with high-end specifications and a 3430mAh battery. Available in three colours, it also comes with an 8-megapixel front camera, fingerprint scanner integrated in the power button, and the MediaTek Helio P20 octa-core processor. It runs on Android 7, up to 4 GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage plus microSD card slot.
