South Africa says MTN has not sought help on fine

South Africa's department of telecommunications said that MTN has not asked for help regarding its multi-billion-dollar fine in Nigeria. Minister Siyabonga Cwele told Fin24 that until MTN comes to ask the department that they need its formal assistance, then the department will be working with the country's foreign affairs and other relevant government bodies. MTN announced on 26 October that the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) had fined it USD 5.2 billion for failing to disconnect up to five million unregistered SIM cards in a timely manner.
