South Africa seeks legal advice on WhatsApp's new privacy policy

South Africa's Information Regulator (IR) said it was seeking legal advice to get messaging platform WhatsApp to revise its privacy policy in the country, and to align with standards used in the European Union (EU). The regulator said it wrote to  WhatsApp in March about concerns over coming changes to the messaing service's privacy policy but that it has received no agreement from WhatsApp on the matter. The regulator is now briefing attorneys to prepare an opinion on the way forward in terms of litigation.
