South African minister reiterates benefits of wholesale open access mobile network

The South African government has reiterated its support for licensing a wholesale open access network (WOAN) as a way to promote "healthy" competition in the country's ICT sector, ITWeb reported. Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams told Parliament that the deployment of a WOAN will encourage licensees to work together as far as it is practicable. She said sharing and collaboration between licensees would result in more effective use of spectrum.
