SpaceX raises USD 1.9 bln in new funding, launches more Starlink satellites
SpaceX has raised USD 1.9 billion in new equity funding, according to a SEC filing. People familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that the latest financing round values the company at USD 46 billion. 

SpaceX also announced another successful launch with its Falcon 9 rocket. It launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida 58 satellites for its Starlink broadband network and three observation satellites for PlanetLabs. This was the sixth launch with this booster and it was again recovered at sea after the launch. 

This is the 11th launch of Starlink satellites, taking the fleet to over 600 satellites. SpaceX aims to launch the broadband services later this year in North America and expand to the rest of the world from 2021.

The valuation is a leap from August, when the company raised USD 1.9 billion at a valuation of USD 46 billion, but lower than reports talked about in December. The company raised the new funds at USD 419.99 per share. Company insiders and existing investors were able to sell an additional USD 750 million in a secondary transaction. Sources said demand was extremely high

The  Starlink website, used for signing up beta customers in the US, Canada, and the UK, will now direct users with South African addresses to a payment gateway. Previously, South Africans were presented with a message that informed them they would get updates via their provided email address when the service became available at their location.

SpaceX brings up 10 more Starlink satellites, among 143 spacecraft put into space

SpaceX announced by tweet that it launched 143 spacecraft on 24 January, including 10 Starlink satellites, and that this completed its first ever SmallSat Rideshare programme. The day broke the record for the most satellites put into space on a single launch. The company explained that its rideshare lets small satellites join its rockets for more affordable rides to orbit. The programme charges from USD 1 million for the first 485 pounds, The Verge reported.

SpaceX launches Turksat 5A satellite

SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launched Turksat's 5A satellite into orbit from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on 7 January. Turkey's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu reported that the first signal from the satellite was received 35 minutes after its launch. The satellite services will be activated in around four months, Turksat said.

SpaceX in talks to raise new funds - report

SpaceX is in discussions with investors to raise another round of funding at a valuation of USD 92 billion. That's more than double the amount in its previous financing round, Business Insider reported citing people familiar with the matter. SpaceX plans to close the funding in January. SpaceX didn't immediately reply to a request for comment.

Starlink invites users to public beta of satellite broadband service

The SpaceX satellite internet service Starlink has started inviting people in the US to join its public beta test. The broadband service will cost USD 99 a month, plus USD 499 for the equipment in the 'Better Than Nothing Beta' test, according to email images seen by CNBC.

SES picks SpaceX to launch four additional O3b mPower satellites

SES has selected SpaceX as a launch partner to deliver the four newly-ordered O3b mPower spacecraft of its next-generation Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) communications system. As the initial seven O3b mPower satellites procured, these additional four satellites will be launched into space on board Falcon 9 rockets from Cape Canaveral. A total of four Falcon 9 rockets will be used to support the deployment of all O3b mPower satellites.

SES selects SpaceX for launch of new C-Band satellites

SES announced that SpaceX will provide launch functionality for up to 3 of its C-band satellites over two launches as part of SES's accelerated C-band clearing plan. SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket will launch two C-band satellites built by Northrop Grumman as well as provide enhanced protection to rapidly launch a contingency satellite from Cape Canaveral, Florida in 2022 allowing SES to meet the Federal Communications Commission's time-critical objective to roll out 5G services across the US.

SpaceX announced the successful launch of its ninth Starlink mission, carrying 58 more Starlink satellites and three of Planet's SkySats, on 13 June. The company said its Falcon 9 rocket lifted off from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida at 5:21am Eastern time carrying 58 Starlink broadband satellites instead of the usual 60 to make room for the 3 remote-sensing SkySat satellites for Planet Labs, its first smallsat ride-share.
