SpaceX to launch 2 of Spacecom's communication satellites into orbit

Friday 20 October 2017 | 11:10 CET | News
Israel's Space Communications entered into a deal with SpaceX to launch two communication satellites into orbit, writes Reuters. SpaceX will not charge the company for this launch to make up for the loss of Spacecom's Amos-6 satellite which blew up in 2016 together with the Falcon 9 rocket that carried it. Space Communications said the first new satellite, Amos-17, would be sent into orbit in Q2 2019 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. The satellite will operate for 19 years. Spacecom said it agreed to pay SpaceX up to USD 62 million to launch a second satellite, Amos-8, in H2 2020.
