Spain commits EUR 8 mln to 2016 Mobile World Congress

The Spanish government has allocated a total of EUR 8 million to funding next year's edition of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Telecoms minister Victor Calvo-Sotelo said the budget included EUR 3 million for a project designed to promote start-ups and new ventures in the digital domain through special capital funds. The GSMA last month confirmed that the MWC would remain in the Catalan capital until 2023 after it reached a deal to extend the current contract, which expires in 2018.
