Spain increases smart city funding to EUR 100 mln

Spain's industry ministry has announced that it has increased the funding for the second "Smart Cities" tender launched last year from EUR 48 million to EUR 100 million to meet the demand from local authorities and autonomous communities. The ministry said over 100 projects from all of the country's regions have submitted applications, with the cost of the proposed projects exceeding EUR 250 million. The initiative was open to all local authorities of more than 20,000 people as well as single-province autonomous communities throughout Spain.
