Spain launches trials of Covid-19 tracing app on La Gomera

Thursday 25 June 2020 | 13:59 CET | News
Spain has announced the imminent launch of trials for an app designed to make it easier to alert people who have been in close proximity with someone who has tested positive with Covid-19. The government said the 2-week trial will begin on 29 June on the Canary Island of La Gomera, with technology company Indra awarded the EUR 330,000 contract to manage the pilot. The app is based on software launched last month by Apple and Google, which ensures contact records are stored on individual devices rather than on a central server to ease privacy concerns.
