Spain regulator cuts wholesale price of free number calls

Spain's communications regulator CNMC has decided to cut the price of wholesale fixed call origination fees in relation to special numbers starting with 800x, 900x and the 14YA-type short codes. The decision comes after BT complained that the price charged by Telefonica Moviles was disproportionate and unsuccessfully tried to renegotiate the fee. Under Spanish legislation, numbers beginning with 901 and 902 must be used for information and customer service purposes only and not for lucrative ends but the wholesale prices charged caused many companies to move from a free to a paid service.
