Spain to retune DTT frequencies in 2020 - report

Wednesday 24 February 2016 | 09:34 CET | News
The European Commission's recent confirmation that it will propose opening up the 700 MHz band to mobile services by mid-2020 means that Spain will have to initiate a second digital migration within the next four years, according to unnamed industry ministry sources cited by Europa Press. If the EC approves the freeing up of the 700 MHz band for 4G and 5G services, around 15 million Spaniards will be required to retune their DTT aerials in 2020, just five years after the completion of the migration to free up the 800 MHz band frequencies used by DTT channels for 4G deployment.
